Interaction between host genotypes and pathogen strains

The following biplot is most appropriate for visualizing host by pathogen interactions:

The biplot is based on model 4 (double-centered) so that the main effects of the host and the pathogens are removed; anything you see is host by pathogen interaction, or specific virulence or vertical resistance.

This biplot shows the following:

• The strains fall into three distinct groups: S-qnb851, S48+S78, and other strains.

• These strains have strong specific virulence:  S-qnb851 and S48+S78.

• These genotypes have strong vertical resistance: H8, H31, H22, and H-Betzes.

•   S48 and S78 are particularly virulent to H8 and H31, H10, but not to others.

• S-qnb851is particularly virulent to H22 but not virulent to H-betzes and H31.

• H16, H32, H33, H30, H34 have no vertical resistance: they are either resistant (H16, H32) or susceptible (H30) to all strains (see resistance of genotypes).
